Mitochondria are tiny structures found in most of the body’s cells. They help cells transform nutrients and oxygen into a form of energy that supports everyday cellular work. They are important—and they are one part of a much bigger, interconnected picture.

Mitochondria

Often called the cell’s energy makers, mitochondria help convert energy from food into ATP, a molecule cells use for many ordinary functions. Different tissues can have different energy demands.

Cellular energy

Energy production relies on a series of coordinated processes inside cells. It is better understood as a system than as one single switch a product or habit can turn on.

Wellness & healthy aging

Healthy aging is not a single outcome or formula. It can include sustainable routines, preventive care, social connection, and choices that fit an individual’s needs and values.

My story

WHY I STARTED THE MITO HEALTH PROJECT

At 53, I’m rebuilding my health—and I’m sharing the journey.

My health journey hasn’t been simple. I’ve dealt with COVID, high blood pressure, kidney failure, significant unplanned weight loss and other health challenges that changed the way I think about my body and my future.

After losing about 40 pounds and becoming underweight, I realized I needed to become much more intentional about my health. Today, I’m working to rebuild—improving how I eat, getting back into exercise, working to regain healthy weight and muscle, and learning more about cellular health, mitochondrial function, recovery and healthy aging.

The Mito Health Project grew out of my decision to take a more active role in understanding and rebuilding my health.

I’m documenting what I’m learning, what I’m trying, and what happens along the way. I’ll share the progress as well as the challenges as I work toward becoming stronger and healthier.
